Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of plans that was cancelled in the past in the context of dialogue abou plans and expected things .

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a discussion activity in the context of cancelled plans

Procedure

-The data show might be of bad quality. S: I will be ready with printed materials. P: some weak learners might find the lesson challenging. S: I will monitor them accurately and put them in groups with strong learners. Extra students may come to the session. S: Extra materials should be prepared.

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show Ss my planner of the last week (to-do list) and discuss the things (plans) that I failed to achieve. I will show them the rest of my planner and the other duties that I was expected and agreed to do with my family and friends.I will tell them that I failed and give them reasons.

Gist task (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will show them a picture of a husband and a wife thinking about plans for their anniversary and ask them some questions to understand what's going on in the text, I will give students HO1 and ask them to read and answer the questions. Ask ss to check in pairs. Show the SS the feedback on the board.

Highlighting language. (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will ask students to highlight the target language by underlining the was/were going to and was/were supposed to. ask students what verb form is following the TL was/were going/supposed to.(base verb)

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

.Highlight the marker sentences on the board and start asking CCQs to clarify the meaning : We were going to spend our anniversary in the cottage in Wales where we had our honeymoon, but it was already booked. CCQ: 1- Did they plan to spend their anniversary in the cottage in Wales? yes 2- Are they going to spend their anniversary there? No Tom was supposed to book the cottage months ago, but he forgot. I was supposed to call you back, wasn't I? Sorry, Leo, I was out all day . CCQs: 1 Did Tom agree to book the cottage? yes 2 Did he book it? No 3 Did Leo expect his mother to call him back?yes 4 Did she call him back?no Ask Ss to answer the questions to elicit the meaning.in exercise B and the form in exercise C. Drill the marker sentences with the students chorally, in groups and individually. Highlight stressed syllables and weak forms.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Put students in pairs and match the beginnings of sentences 1-7 to the ends of sentences a-g. display the feedback on the PPt Ask students to Rewrite the sentences in 7a. Use was/were going to or was/were supposed to. make sure to demo the task with the students to facilitate the activity.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask students to Write three things that they were going to do and three things they were supposed to do in the last four weeks. Make notes on why you didn't do these things. for example: visit my aunt-+ had to work instead Put students in pairs. Take turns to tell each other about the things on their list. Ask follow-up questions if possible.
