Description

Teaching Ss 4 expressions to demonstrate interest in the conversation. The 4 expressions are: Wow; What a shame; Oh, dear; and Oh, really.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Interjections in the context of Imaginary conversation between friends

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Interjections in the context of daily life

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Inform Ss of things I am interested in and then ask them if they are interested in them. Give the Ss time to say things they are interested in

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text

Have a dialogue between two friends that contain all 4 phrases. The students will then have a quiz to identify the phrases and when they are used.

MFP (10-14 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Will explain the MFP and appropriateness of the phrases. Will have a ranking system to teach the students the intensity of the phrases with synonyms of the phrases,

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will have a quiz having the students use the phrases in scenarios to determine if they understand the meaning and form of the phrases

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will give the Ss a list of activities and have them go to break-out rooms and discuss if they are interested in them or not, encouraging them to use the TL.
