Description

In this lesson, students will learn how to describe people and produce their own writings about describing others. The lesson will start with teaching the simple vocabulary of physical appearance. Then, T does 2 actitivies which focus on Ss' comprehension of the vocabulary. After those activities, T shows a model of a writing to help students formulate their own writings.

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a paragraph in the context of describing people

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide vocabulary of physical appearance in the context of describing people

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will project multiple people with different physical appearances with certain vocabulary to match them. The words and the pictures will be in different places and T will ask students to match these vocabularies to their pictures in pairs. W/C check and F/B The words that will be included are: - curly - pony tail - slim - grey - casual clothes - smart clothes

Matching Activity (3-5 minutes) • To CQ the Lead-in activity

T will do activity 1 with students, they will write the names of the people that fit the best for the questions provided. Ss will complete this activity individually and T will monitor them while doing so. "Who has got grey hair?" (Pedro) and etc.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will present activity 2 to students and ask students to analyze the words and make drawbacks to activity 1. After checking the answer, T briefly mentions the difference between is // have/has got by asking the difference between two sentences. - She **is** 'holding a book' - She **has got** 'brown hair'.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Ss will read the description seen in acitivty 3. T will ask students to analyze the writing and figure out who the writing is talking about individually.

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T asks students to write a description of another person in the classroom in one paragraph. The paragraph in question has to include these criterias. - age - hair lenght/color, eye color - clothes - what they are doing at the moment - their personality

Additional Practice (5-7 minutes) • To comprehension check the productive task

T will ask Ss to read out their paragraphs one at a time, and ask the class on who they think the person they have described is. Depending on the time, T either asks all Ss to read their paragraphs out, or asks 2-3 students to do so.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

While Ss are reading their writings out, T will make notes of the common mistakes that they have made and will write them on the board in a paraphrased context which still has the same kind of mistake. T then will underline the wrong part of the sentence and ask other Ss to fix the mistake.
