Interview, Reading Lesson
Elementary group level

Description

In this lesson, students learn vocabulary related to last-time events or experiences versus first-time situations. They get exposed to that vocabulary through a reading text which is basically an article from a magazine or a website. They read it twice, the first time for gist and the second for specific information. Students also listen to people talking about personal information and past events. Finally, they get to speak with their partners and conduct interviews themselves

Pre-Teach vocabulary : (7-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the reading text and make it accessible for them.

I will cover these five words that I expect students to know but I will go over them nevertheless. They are ( Interview-actor-confusion-barbecue- fall off). I will follow the ECDW technique to get the meaning and the form and the pronunciation of the words. Finally, provide a context for the vocabulary items one by one.

I provide the students with a simple fill-in-the-gaps activity in which they fill in the text using the verbs: cry - go -go - smoke but in the simple past.

1- After reading the article , Ss decide which is the best title from a list of 3 titles. 2- Second activity,Ss need to read the questions in the table before reading the article again, so that they can find the targeted specific information.

Post-Reading/Listening (3-4 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to listen for specific information and expand on what they've learned

Ss read the question choices before they listen so that they know the mission, and have a purpose in doing the activity.

Free practice (7-7 minutes) • Students speak with their partners, they interview one another.

I demo the idea of the free practice to the students allowing them to ask me questions using the list of ideas that they have. Then, they got to do the same with their partners.
