Description

In this lesson, ss are going to practice Reading & speaking through discussing topics in pairs and in groups as well. They are going to read a text about parallel lives and learn how to describe the differences and similarities within the family members.

Materials

Abc Cutting Edge intermediate.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification
  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about Parallel lives in the context of family
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of similarities within the family.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of similarity phrasal verbs.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss work in pairs to discuss topics in exercise 1 then, get some ideas before moving on. (5 minutes)

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Clarifying new and difficult words to make the text more accessible.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Match the set of twins to the correct statement ex.3 on page 36 after reading the text on page 37. We have a pair check afterwards and then the feedback.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Read the text on page 37 again, decide individually which statements are true or false in ex.4, then check your answers in pairs before the final feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Discussing the questions in ex.5 in small groups for 8 minutes to make sure that everything was understood, then a final feedback.
