Description

By the end of the lesson, students will have had clarification on the meaning, form and pronunciation of Superlatives in the context of relationships, and practiced this in a controlled and freer exercise.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of superlatives in the context of relationships.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a descriptive speech in the context of relationships.
  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about description in the context of relationships

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The ss say a description of one of the six characters on the image. And say teh name of one person they know for each adjective.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss listen to a conversation of 2 friends talking about some relatives and friends in the middle of a weddding. Then answer these questions: Who are speaking? are they firends or relatives? Which event is it?

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss read a fragment of the conversation on the screen and recall the name of some of the people described.

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: Students read the examples on the screen and choose the ones in which the thing or action described has more of the quality than all others of the same type.Using superlativesw Form: Students click on teh link and find out the superlatives form: https://forms.gle/NSubzkQ97MGR7Jc17ty Pronunciation: Students practice repeating the stress and intonation in some phrases.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students fill in the gaps in the sentences with superlatives. Then, they compare their answers with a partner and practice the conversation.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss draw their family tree. Then write one or two superlatives to describe each person on their family tree. Then, they work in pairs, Taking turns to tell their partner about their family tree. They need to use the superlatives and their own ideas to describe each person, and ask questions to find out more information about your partner’s family tree. FInally, they tell the class which person or people in your partner’s family they would like to meet.
