Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about facts about professor Bouchard's research in the context of twin lives
  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about twin lives in the context of personal preferences,family, IQ, and personality traits

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a small group activity in the context of discussing certain questions about twin lives

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'll show Ss a picture of a famous family portrait and try to elicit answers to questions about the pictures and get the Ss to share about their own families. Then, they will work in pairs to discuss questions in pairs to have different ideas before moving on.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I'll Clarify the difficult words to make the text more accessible. I'll show the Ss a picture of the Jim twins and ask the Ss what's so remarkable about them?

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

I'll ask the Ss to match the set of twins mentioned in the passage to the statement in exercise 3 I'll send the Ss to breakout rooms to pair check their answers. I'll discuss feedback with the whole class.

While-Reading #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

I'll ask Ss to read again and decide if the statements in ex 4 are true or false. In break out rooms they'll pair check. I'll conduct o/c feedback.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will discuss the questions in ex 5 in small groups to get a chance to speak and practice on their fluency.
