Description

In this lesson, students read about some festivals from all over the world. The lesson starts with using pictures to discuss some famous festivals and celebrations in Egypt. After that, there is a pre teach vocabulary. There is a reading for gist exercise where students read and match. This is followed by a reading for specific information exercise. After that, there is a reading for details exercise. there is a speaking exercise where students speak about the times they love. Finally, there is feedback on content and language

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss talk about what they do during some famous festivals and celebrations in Egypt.

Pre-teaching vocabulary (4-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Tutor pre teach the following vocabulary (throw, festival, fascinating, celebrate, favourite, leaves). Tutor clarifies the meaning, form and pronunciation. Tutor models and drills with Ss.

Reading for gist (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Tutor gives ss the pictures three famous festivals and has them match the photos with the pictures. Ss chack in pairs. Tutor gives answer key

Reading for specific information (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss read again the previous text quickly and answer the questions. Ss chack in pairs. Tutor gives answer key.

Reading for details (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss read a text carefully to complete the answers. Ss chack in pairs. Tutor gives answer key.

Follow-up activity (7-10 minutes) • To allow students to practise speaking

Ss speak about the times they love in pairs. Then, they talk to the class.

Feedback (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with a feedback about their performance
