Description

In this lesson, students learn about superstitions. The lesson starts with a discussion about guessing the session topic followed with a discussion about superstitions. This is followed by a listening and writing task to integrate various skills in the lesson. Finally, there will be a Gallery Walk activity to read and discuss their writing.

Main Aims

To provide practice of Superstitions related words: superstitious, charms, belief, fact, fear, ritual, evil, lucky and unlucky in the context of Superstitions

Subsidiary Aims

• Identify the language mistakes and apply self-correction. • Work in groups in a cooperative way.

Procedure (45-59 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

• The teacher will share three pictures that express superstitions and ask the students about them to guess the topic of a lesson. • The teacher will Introduce the word superstitions to the students using MPF and gave them examples to highlight the meaning. Examples: According to superstition, if you walk under a ladder it brings you bad luck. • I don't believe in the old superstition that the number 13 is unlucky. • The teacher will ask the students to work in groups to answer some questions about superstitions. • She will ask them some ICQs to check their understanding. • The teacher will ask the students to watch this vide about superstitions all over the world and choose the one that surprized them. They will have eight minutes: six for the video and two for sharing the answers. • She will ask them some ICQs to check their understanding. ICQs: What are you going to do? Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

• The teacher will ask the students to create a poster about four crazy superstitions from their country. • She will ask them to provide a description of each one in at least two or three sentences. • It is allowed to enhance their posters by using quotes or drawings. • ICQs: What are you going to do?
