Description

In this lesson students will practice ways of dealing with misunderstanding and ways to be clearer when dealing with a similar situation. The exercices will cover speaking, listening and reading aslo Ss will do some group work and dıscussion on the tasks.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T starts the lesson by telling a story to get Ss attention and understand the meaning of misunderstanding. Ss will work in pairs, T encourages Ss to share there experiences with the class.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T asks Ss to look at the picture, T asks what Ss can see and what is happening in the picture. T gives instruction about the task and gives handout and asks Ss to fold the handout so they will not read the second text, T asks Ss to gist read the text for 2 minutes and Ss will discuss in pairs about the text and what happened next. T CCQ by asking Ss questions about the text they have read Ss gives F/B T asks students to unfold the handout and read the text, T CCQ by asking questions about the text. S work in pairs and practice re-telling the story using the words provided by T they will have 3 minutes to re-tell the story and practice dialogue.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T gives clear instructions on how to complete the task and give one example for students have a clearer idea. T gives the handouts and ask Ss to match phrases Ss work alone and when completed check in pairs, give answer key to students. Ss will have 5 minutes to complete this task. T instructs Ss to work in pairs to discuss the meaning of the words in bold, T monitors Ss and drills the words with Ss.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T give instructions for new task which they will listen to an audio about misunderstanding, the audio lasts 3 minutes. Ss will be asked to listen to four conversation and point out the misunderstandings they hear. Explain Ss that they will listen to the audio again and not to worry if they do not understand it for the first time. T asks students to compare their answers in pairs T gives feedback and elicit answers. Ss will listen to the audio again after T gives and example on how to complete task 3b and Ss will check and compare their answers with their pairs.

Post-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will be ask to complete task 3c T will instruct Ss to fill in the gaps using the words provided, T will give one example before Ss start. Ss will check their answers in pairs. Ss will listen to audio again and check their answers, T will play the recording for Ss to repeat after each sentence. T will focus on intonation and drill with Ss and will get feedback from whole class to conclude the lesson
