Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of feelings adj and compound nouns. in the context of sad, happy , nervious, anxious, merry

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask them first how you felt during the pandemic. Did your life change? Do you think nature changed during the pandemic? Then I will ask them what do you think today’s lesson is about Then we will introduce the difficult vocabulary Lastly, I will hand them the reading to read silently for general understanding. after they answer the question of what do you think the text is about in groups or pairs depending on time management, we will move to the next step.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In pairs match the following vocabulary. ( The difficult vocab in the text and then compound nouns) I will draw student's attention to the reading technique they are practicing on and ask them to answer the questions. Also I will highlight the target vocabulary. I felt sad… / chocked / disappointed There is less carbon emissions The Earth had less pollution

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

After that I will ask one of the group leaders to check share what they understand from the text?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I will clarify more about the target language and I will check their answers to the questions. So what emotions here are negative? What are positive? Did we feel nervous miserable anxious, and confused because of Covid19? And after it’s done did you feel glad, joyful, delighted? So adjs has different forms right? How many syllables in miserable, where is the stress? Where is the stress in Confused and Miserable? What about glad, joy.ful, delighted “dɪˈlaɪ·tɪd” where is the stress? In the compound nouns “Air pollution” “Carbon emissions” stress is almost always on the first syllable

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Watch a video about emotions and tell me which of the emotions we learned today was in the video. Or write your own a short paragraph of 5 to 8 sentences using the target vocabulary we learned today and share it as a group. In a circle discuss the situation after Covid 19 did we change to the best or not?
