Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for making offers, suggestions and requests.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for making offers, suggestions and requests in the context of charity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Have learners talk about 1 or 2 questions related to the lesson topic: - What are the biggest or most well-known charities in your country? - Have you / or people you know ever raised(collect) money for a charity?

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Listen to some people planning a charity event for the WWF ( World Wide Fund for Nature). What is the event?

Highlighting (3-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Read the statements on the screen and show if these people are planning (thumb up) or not (thumb down) the activities for the event.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: Students match headings with examples to figure out which are offers, suggestions or requests. Form: Students select the verb form that goes after the phrases in bold in a Google form. Pronunciation: Students practice listening and repeating the stress and intonation of the phrases of the previous exercise

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students fill in the gaps in the sentences with suggestions, offers and requests. Then, they compare their answers with a partner and practice the conversation.

Free Practice (8-11 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students work in groups where they imagine they are organizing a charity event. They have to decide on the charity, the type of event, when and where it is happening, a 5-list of things, and responsible for each thing. Students need to use the TL covered during the lesson. BOR Finally, the T conducts Feedback and DEC: As students are talking, I take notes noticing potential mistakes, and type those sentences, So, students can identify if they are correct or not, and correct them.
