They will first discuss images about healthy diets of 3 countries and try to guess which country does the picture belong to. After that, they will read a text about these said healthy diets, and will have a discussion with the T about it. Lastly, Ss will talk about the food that they like and dislike, and which diet would they prefer.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about healthy diets around the world in the context of food

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of healthy diets around the world

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will do the 1a activity with the students. Ss will look at the photos that are on the presentation that T has prepared and guess the countries that the pictures belong to, and have a general discussion about the picture itself, generating small sentences like "This food is Japanese, I love Japanese food." etc. T will also elicit the word "dish" while discussing, often using the word to talk about food.

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Before Reading the text, T elicits some crucial vocabulary that Ss might have trouble understanding using the same PPT that T has prepared.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T asks students to do the T/F activity individually. These questions are aimed to check if Ss has understood the text.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T does activity 2, matching the statements to the countries that it belongs to. T will ask students to do this activity alone but the checking on the activity will be done as a W/C. T will demo the first question as to give an idea of what to do to students. After Ss do it alone and give their answers, T will ask them to justify their answers using the information that they have gathered from the text. W/C F/B

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will ask open ended questions for students to discuss in groups of 2. These questions will be "What is your favourite food?", "What food do you like or dislike?". Additionally, T will ask if the students would be interested in eating the food mentioned in the reading text.
