Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of language used for creating advertisements

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about advertisement in the context of how to be kind
  • To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a created advertisement in the context of selling a product

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T starts with personalization by talking about a friend's advice that changed her life. T asks ss to talk in pairs about an advice they give or is given to them that they will never forget.

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T sets the context and gives clear instructions. ss are asked a gist question to answer after watching an advertisement, T listens to the ss's answers and talks about some incidents in the video if needed.

Useful Language (14-20 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T elicits the advertising techniques used in the video. T elicits the other techniques using some visuals and contexts. T highlights all the techniques on the board while using some keywords beside the complex terms to be well recognized. T uses some CCQs.

controlled practice (10-12 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language

T chests the test while giving clear instructions. T answers the first question as a model. T uses ICQs before ss start. T gives OCF.

Productive Task(s) (13-16 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss are asked to create one of the suggested products, an app or others and its advertisement using some of the advertising techniques in a group work. T gives examples: a watch a sandwich an app a chair a dessert a pen a lamp a drink a gadget T asks ss to cover the following info: • What is the product? • What is its name? • Who is it for? • How much will it cost? • Why is it different from other similar products? • Do you have an advertising slogan for it? Ss are asked to sell their product through their created advertisement. T uses some ICQs. T monitors taking notes for the following stage.

Feedback and Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T gives feedback by highlighting the errors and eliciting their correction. T praises some good taken notes
