Description

To introduce and provide practice of writing a (short) formal letter to complain about something. Layout and useful languages will be provided, and students will practice and given feedback.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask students if they ever had any bad service before? How did it make them feel? and have they ever written a complaint letter before? and let them share the experience with the class. I will acknowledge their contribution

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I will give them a sample formal letter of complaint. They will have to read what problem did the writer encounter first. (2 mins) CCQ: Do you have to read fast or slow? fast How many minutes will you have> 2 Then, they will have to identify how many paragraphs are there. After that, they will have to tell the purpose of each paragraph.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will as the students to identify some useful languages in the task. Then I will show the fixed parts and elicit some examples from the students.

Productive Task(s) (13-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students will have to write a formal letter of complaint on a service they received from an employee. They will write on a google doc and I will give them real time feedback using comments on errors.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

After writing, students will have to check each other's letter using my online checklist in the breakout room. (5 minutes) then, I will give open classroom feedback.
