Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of speaking for fluency for talking about preferences in the context of a dream holiday.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide listening practice for Ss to listen for specific information.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T begins sharing the screen - T asks Ss to answer, "What was your favorite vacation?" taking into consideration the following aspects: The place The people The activities The climate Relaxing/Exciting? - T models answer by sharing her own experience - Ss share their experiences with the class

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

- T plays audio about a couple describing their dream vacation to a traveling agent - T asks Ss to answer What are they talking about? What is the man asking them? - T plays the audio again if needed (making pauses) - Ss share their answers

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

- T shows Ss a list of expressions for two roles: asking about someone's dream vacation and talking about your dream vacation - T goes over these expressions with Ss and asks Ss if they remember hearing any of the examples in the audio

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- T pairs Ss in breakout rooms - T asks Ss to roleplay as a traveling agent and customer using the useful language - S1 asks about S2's dream vacation and S2 answers - Ss switch roles (S2 asks and S1 answers) so everyone gets to talk about their dream vacation

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

- T monitors during the productive task and takes notes - T provides Ss with feedback based on the notes
