Description

In this lesson, students learn and use future clauses with if, when, as soon as, until, before etc. through guided discovery based on reading. The lesson starts with using visuals as a lead in. After that, there is a matching exercise. This is followed by pre teach vocabulary. There is a reading exercise where students read and match. this is followed by clarification of meaning, form and pronunciation. Finally, there is some controlled practice and free practice via speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of talking about themselves.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Tutor asks learners about what they are going to do after reaching home today.

Pre teach vocabulary. (2-3 minutes) • To enable the students to have sufficient vocabulary to do the next tasks

Tutor pre teach the following vocabulary (plumber, resign, run (a hotel). Tutor clarifies the meaning, form and pronunciation. Tutor models and drills with Ss.

Reading task (4-6 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

– Tutor gives ss the pictures of Claire, Kevin and Lorna/Ian (with the texts attached) and has them match the quotes on p53 to the person who they’re said about or who said them. Ss chack in pairs. Tutor gives answer key.

Language clarification (6-8 minutes) • To provide Ss with the target language

Tutor clarifies the meaning, form and pronunciation through eliciting.

Controlled Practice. (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to practise the target language in a guided way

Ss do Ex 2 p 53 . They finish the sentences about themselves. After that, they work in pairs. tutor gives feedback.

Language practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Tutor switches up pairs and has Ss discuss their sentences in a conversation. tutor demos activity first.

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with a feedback about their performance

Tutor asks students to talk about their partners. Tutor changes Ss. tutor discusses with Ss.
