Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about things you will miss in the context of stucking in the desert.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a things you will miss in the context of being stuck in the desert

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

As a warmer, we'll play hot seat I'll write the word (desert) and ask for a volunteer to give his back and not to read the word, the other students shouldn't tell the student about the word instead , they should act the comment. (like a charade). -Ask students about what good and bad things about deserts are. -Ask students to imagine that they're stuck in the desert, what are the things they'll miss most and least?

Set the context. (2-5 minutes) • To generate interest in the topic of the text

Ask students to guess what our lesson will be about in order to raise the skill of prediction .

Pre-teaching voc. (5-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Before reading, I'll do the pre-teaching vocabulary in order to unblock the meaning of the new words that may hinder their understanding, I'll use the (ECDW) elicit, CCQs, drill, and write on the whiteboard. (be) cut of from the world Pastry go mad

Gist task (5-10 minutes) • To give Ls a reason to read / listen at a general level

Put students in 2 groups and ask students to read the whole text quickly and come up with a new title for the text. Discuss the reason why they chose this title for the text. Make sure that they read quickly and that they don't have to understand every single word.

Specific information task (14-16 minutes) • To give students a reason to read / listen for individual items of information

I will ask students to scan the text to locate some specific information to answer Ex12d that's about the names of each person . I will ask students to check the answers in pairs. I will show students the Feedback on the PPT.

Detailed task (8-10 minutes) • To give Ls a reason to read / listen at a detailed level

Give students some challenging questions in Ho3 that require intensive reading. Ask students to read slowly and try to find the answers. Ask students to check the answers in pairs before show the feedback on the projector.

Follow up • To give Ls the chance to respond to the text To balance productive and receptive skills

Ex 12a – I will put students into groups and ask each group to make a list of the things that you will miss most and the thing that you will miss least, I will ask students to discuss the answers in an open class feedback.
