This is an Upper-intermediate Speaking lesson where students are going to interact with each other about "Countries' social codes".

Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide speaking practice for fluency in the context of Countries' Social Codes.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide inference reading practice using a text about English people.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

The teacher greets students. T projects these questions: 1. Do you know anyone from a different culture/Country? What are they like? 2. How would you describe them? Ss are going to share with each other in BO rooms for 3 minutes. Ss are going to share with the class when they come back. ICQ: How much time do you have to discuss these questions?

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading.

Ss are going to read a text about "English people". After they read they are going to answer the question: Does the writer think English people are unfriendly? Why/Why not?

Useful Language (5-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks.

T projects 5 phrases that are useful to describe social codes. -It's completely normal to... -Avoid talking to strangers about... -You can break the silence by... -You should always... -It's not okay to... T practices pronunciation. Where is the stress? Repeat after me:

Productive Task(s) (15-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills.

T asks students to make a list of at least 5 tips for tourists coming to their Country. (2 minutes). After their lists are done ss are going to discuss their lists in BO rooms for 6 minutes. After that, they are going to change partners and share again. If students are from the same Country, do they agree with their peers' list? ICQs: How much time do you have to create your list? Are you going to talk with the same partner twice?

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language
