Description

In this lesson, students will be introduced to new vocabulary words (Easily Confused Words). Through visual aid (Videos, photos, songs,..etc.). Followed by how can the words be used in different forms. Finally, there will be some controlled practice followed by free practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of of the job types and names in the context of of the characteristics of each job.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of of the job names in the context of of knowing how to connect each job with its visual aid (Photo) or description.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will be introduced to a set of 5 questions personalized questions about their everyday life and will be asked to answer them as they see fit in pairs. The goals is that someone of the students might use the vocabulary words in the right context naturally while answering the questions. Questions: 1. How would you feel if a close friend of yours was crying? Sad (Sensible). 2. How do you feel when a lecture is 3+ hours long? (Bored). 3. What is your favorite treat to eat? Chocolate (Dessert). 4. What do you do when you want to cook a meal and you do not know how? Ask my mom for help (Recipe). 5. What do you have to do before you leave a restaurant? Pay the money (Receipt).

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Introduce the new vocabulary words to the students: -Sensible: Acting with good judgement. -Sensitive: Easily upset. -Boring: Not interesting at all. -Bored: Feeling uninterested or with nothing to do. -Desert: An area of land with sand and rock where very little grows and there is little rain. -Dessert: A sweet dish at the end of a meal. -Recipe: Instructions for making or preparing food. -Receipt: A small document, either paper or electronic, that shows you have paid money for something. -Contents: All the things that are inside something else. -Ingredients: Individual parts that are combined to make something else, often food. Drilling will take place. There will be visual aid after with the words written on the board, and there will be photos that will help the students picture the words in the right context.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

After the exposure of the new words, the teacher will explain the meaning of each word and how each word can easily be confused with the other word as they can be have similar spelling or can be used by people in the context which is a common mistake in the English language all while using the visual aid. Each new word will be used in a sentence. After teacher will provide clear pronunciation.

Highlighting (2-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Students will be shown a 4 minute video highlighting the vocabulary words and using the in different contexts.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will be asked to solve complete the following questions in groups: I am ------ with this game (Bored - Boring). It would seem ------ to wait (Sensitive - Sensible). What will you have for ------? (Desert - Dessert). If you pay in cash, a ------ may be the only proof you have (Recipe - Receipt). The ------ of the attic were mainly junk (Contents - Ingredients).

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The session will end with a Kahoot game that consists of the definitions and photos of the easily confused words. It will be individual teams.
