Main Aims

To provide practice and review of language used for Choosing people in the context of Starting a space colony

Subsidiary Aims

To provide fluency speaking practice in a Role play conversation in the context of space travel

Procedure (41-46 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask the students what kind of people they would like to bring when they have to survive in space.

Presentation through text (8-9 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text

I will demonstrate a conversation using the TL and give students a gist task. They will answer individually first and then compare answers in pairs via private message before OCFB.

Clarification (12-13 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will provide students with some useful language in choosing people. I will cover each language's meaning, form, pronunciation (stresses, chunking), and appropriacy.

Controlled Practice (6-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will give students a Google form to do a multiple-choice exercise for a sentence completion task. The learners do this individually and then check in pairs (via private messages). Then, OCFB.

Free Practice (10-11 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will have Ss have a role-play to choose six people for a space colony. (on breakout rooms) and then conduct feedback and DEC.
