To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about difference between the tablet and the smartphone. in the context of online posts to help someone decide which to buy a tablet or a smartphone.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of tablets and smartphones
Procedure (25-37 minutes)
Teacher holds a discussion with students around the different types of technology and where to find it. Students are prompted by pictures of different types of technology in different places like hospital, school, business and home. Students are directed to more specific discussion about the two types of technology they`re going to read about. The teacher prompts the students by showing them pictures of different aspects they are used in.
Students are divided into two groups; A and B to answer these questions: How popular are tablets and smartphones in your country? What are they used for? group A speaks about the tablet and group B speaks about smartphone.
Teacher explains the task for students. teacher divides them into pairs to read quickly to choose the correct answer for the gist question; "what is the text about?" Teacher uses ICQs to check the students understanding Ex; T: will you work alone? S: No, T: will you work with a partner? S: Yes, T: will you find what the text is about? S: Yes, After reading the text quickly on the PPT, and finding the answer, the teacher shows them the correct answer.
Teacher gives students 5 minutes to read the text again individually, and 2 minutes to work in pairs to decide who said each sentence. Teacher uses CCQs to check the students understanding. e g T: who said the first sentence? S: Sabine T: where did you find this sentence? S: in paragraph 1, sentence 2
Teacher asks the students which would you prefer to buy a tablet or a smartphone. Teacher gives them 5 minutes to decide and find reasons for their choice. Teacher provides students with prompts to illustrate their reasons.eg take selfies, find information, read books, chat. After thinking of the answer, teacher opens a discussion and encourages students to express themselves freely for five more minutes.
