Description

In this lesson students learn about making and responding to suggestions using text related to decision making to guide them. The lesson starts with a lead in about suggestions of what Mexican food to eat.This is followed by exposure to the TL through audio and then Google Form Activity. Subsequently language clarification and MFPA is presented to students which is also followed up by a Google Form. Next students will have a controlled practice in the form of a role play allowing them to practice TL. Finally freer practice will occur when students will have to use learnt phrases from the class to make and respond to suggestions.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for making and responding to suggestions in the context of decision making.

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation of making and responding to suggestions in the context of decision making.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Share screen to display Jam Board. Ask students questions about what they suggest for people to eat in the context of trying Mexican food. Eg. Which traditional dish would you recommend for a tourist to try first ?

Text-Work (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Expose students to TL first through audio. Play audio in open class for all to listen. Following audio provide students with instruction and accompanying Google form to complete individually. Discuss answers in OCFB,

Language Clarification - MFPA (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form pronunciation and appropriacy of the target language

Use Google Jam Board to Briefly introduce terms. The terms discussed will contain TL from text and additional grammar information pertaining to TL. Then allow students to complete Google form. The Google form uses several types of questions to check the meaning, form, pronunciation and appropriacy of the TL. MFPA answers will be discussed in OFCB.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Through Google Form or zoom chat give students TL dialogue questions. Use breakout room to place them in pairs and have them ask and answer each question to one another.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will be given a role play task where they are expected to use the TL to speak with one another about decision making.
