Description

In this lesson Ss. learn about there is /are through guided discovery based Listening about the topic of housing. the lesson starts with reorder the scumbled letters to form names of three rooms in the house as a lead in followed by a listening activity about housing. Finally there is some controlled practice through complete with " there is /there are" and free practice via role play speaking activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks ss to look at the pictures and describe what they see.T assigns ss to reorder the letters forming 3 names of rooms. kitchen-bedroom-bathroom) and name some items they usually find in these rooms.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T assigns ss to match the word to the pictures to pre-teach vocabulary, model and drill. Next t shows a picture of Larry and Louise looking at an advert to rent a new house then assigns ss to listen and decide which rooms they get into. ( listen for gist) T let ss look at a dialogue with some missing words and think about the missing words may be rooms or furniture .t assigns ss to listen and complete the missing words .Peer check and feedback

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T assigns ss to do ex use there is /are ( substitutional table / guided discovery ) T provides feedback T highlights There is /are form : there is a/ an singular /negative isn't /is there : there are + plural / there aren't / are there pronunciation : stress, intonation weak forms elision

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T assigns ss to fill in the blanks ex. a with" there is or there are" individually then check in pairs before feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T assigns ss to form sentences ex.b ( in pairs ) .T provides feedback on board.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T assigns ss to complete the question with "is there or are there " . Ss. ask and answer about their houses. ( role play ) T monitors and provides feedback.
