Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of infinitive Vs gerunds in the context of being famous

Subsidiary Aims

  • Grammar: To revise uses of gerunds and infinitives.
  • Phonology: To provide accuracy of intnation of the words, sentence stress and clarify pronunciation.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

*T introduces the class by sharing a jam board (HO1) with images with quotes of famous people and/or movies. behind the quote there is an image of the person or the movie whose or where the quote belongs. *T asks Ss the following. -do you know any of these quotes?do they sound familiar? who do you think they belong to? *T nominates 1 or 2 students to participate and guess who is the owner of the quote.

Exposure (10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

*T shares with Ss HO2 text through the chat (if needed also share screen with the text for extra help). *Instructions: Read the text and decide which quotation you like the best. you have 2 minutes. After reading T nominates one or two students to share opinions. 2 min Now T shares HO3 GGF1 with Ss to answer. Instructions: Read the text again and look for the infinitives and gerunds asked. you have 4 minutes. *T models the first example to Ss. after answering, T shares the screen of the answers (HO4 PP slide 1) with Ss and conducts OCFB. 3 min

Clarification (14 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

*T introduces MFP by making emphasis on the words sentences previously underlined. *Shows HO4 PP slide 2,3 & 4 and conducts MFP. MFP analysis HO5. *T first shows the word to Ss and shows with the meaning and conducts CCQs (HO5) to check meaning. *T now shows some examples to clarify Problems Ss may find with the word (examples are elicited on the slides). *T shows the correct intonation and shows students the stress of the sentence. *T nominates 1 or 2 Ss to share examples of the words. *T repeats the same process for 4 slides.

Controlled Practice (10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

*T now shares with Ss the link for the HO6 GGF2 through the chat and gives instructions. Instructions: Complete the text with the Gerund or Infinitive form of the verb. (with or without to). you will have 5 minutes. *T models the first example to clarify the task. *After finishing time Ss are sent to BORs for 3 minutes. *T shares the answers on HO4 Slide 6 to give feedback. 2 minutes

Free Practice (8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

*T shares with Ss through the chat the questions (HO7) that Ss will discuss in the BORs. *Instructions: Look at the questions and discuss with your peers. time for the activity 5 minutes. *After finishing T conducts OCFB and DEC *T passes the class to the next T.
