Description

To provide speaking fluency practice in the context of talking about a calendar.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of Calendar

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about Important Dates in the context of Personal Calendar

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show the students some days for celebration. Then, I will ask Ss to identify which days are celebrated in their country. After that, I will ask which months are they in.

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I will show the students five model answers for some important days. Students will be able to read the answer when I am speaking. So, they will have both reading and listening.

Useful Language (6-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will provide students with some useful language in giving answers and asking questions about important days. I will cover the meaning, form, pronunciation (stresses, chunking), and appropriacy of each language.

Productive Task(s) (21-22 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

First, I will give students a topic to discuss and some cues for what to include. I will give Ss 1 minute to take notes and then talk in the breakout rooms for 6 minutes. Second, I will give students two critical days to discuss (A vital birthday or anniversary and an important day in your country): one minute to take notes and 7 minutes to talk. Thirdly, I will give students two more important days ( a day when something interesting happened to them recently and a day when you've arranged to do something)—similarly, 1 minute to take notes and 8 minutes to talk.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I will give students feedback after each breakout session. I will cover both content and language feedbacks for each session.
