Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will tell the students that I was watching a movie last night. Then I will ask them what they were doing last night and they will tell me one by one.

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write one of the students' answers on the WB to draw their attention to the past continuous tense.

Clarification (5-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

meaning: I will draw a timeline on the WB and ask the students about when the example happend, past, present or the future? after they answered past,I will draw a line in the past and then I will ask was the action in progress or was it at one specific moment? after they answered in progress, I will draw a horizontal line. after that I will ask if them this question: is the action finished or still continuing? after they answer, I will mark the ending point on the timeline before present. Form: I will write the structure with the students' help. first, I will ask: what do we always start the sentence with? they will answer subject, If they did not, I will tell them. after that I ask what should I put here and they will answer was/were by looking at the example. after that I ask what what should I write next or what do we need here? and they will say verb. then I will say verb plus what? and by looking at the example they will say ing. Pronunciation: I will write I/He/She/It + was + doing on one side of the WB and You/We/They + were+ doing on the other. I will ask the whole class to repeat them after me.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will ask the students to go to page 129 in their book and do exercise 2B part a individually. I will use some ICQs to see if they get what they're supposed to do. like: which page are we on? what are we going to do? are you going to do it together or by yourself? After they finished some students will be chosen to say their answers. i will give FB if the answers are incorrect.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will tell the students to go to page 15 of their book. I will tell them to take a look at question 6 part a and discuss the first part in groups. I will monitor and take notes if they make any mistakes, after they are done I will write the correct form of their mistakes on the WB.
