Since this is my first time meeting the students I'll try to use a video as an icebreaker. It's a game about restaurants. I;ll show SS 2 pictures with different attitudes inside the restaurants, ask them some questions to decide which attitude is better. why do you think that? Put students in groups and discuss the pictures together. try to elicit the context by asking: When you ask someone to do something what do we call that? answer: request. so our lesson will be about (Polite requests).
Play the 1st audio in the PPT and ask students to match the request with the character's letter. to get familiar with the context and understand what's going on through the context. Demo the task Ask students to check their answers in pairs. show students the answer key to check the right answers. It might be a bit challenging for them , so I may replay the radio once again.
listen to the audio and fill in gaps with the target language of Polite requests and permissions. ask students to check the answers in pairs . show them the feedback.
on the board , I will give students strips of paper and ask them to categorize the papers according to each category. Ask if you can do something (permission). Ask if somebody can do something (Request) Say yes Say no -Analyse box 1, then appropriacy, intonation and pronunciation of TL(include drilling for intonation practice... -Elicit some responses to the request then give out actual responses to match to requests (pairwork).
Ex 1 in page 73,Ask students to work in pairs ,Rewrite the dialogue to make them sound polie and act out the dialogue. Show students feedback
Free practice SS make up a dialogue between someone making a request and someone accepting or refusing it.Some pictures or hints on the board might be helpful for them.
