Description

In this lesson the students are going to learn some new vocabularies about personality features. They will learn how to focus on comprehending the text not only reading.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Who knows you better, your mother or your best friend? in the context of likes and personality features

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of personality features in the context of Who knows you better, your mother or your best friend?

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher starts introducing herself (name and some personality features). She wants the students to introduce themselves and talk about their some personality features or how they know themselves.

Pre-Reading (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this stage, the teacher wants to teach the students the key words of the text by using some pictures to help them learn better. They can talk about these keywords in pairs to find out who knows them better, their mothers or their best friends. Then they are going to check their answers with the whole class.

While-Reading #1 (1-2 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

The teacher give the students about 2 minutes to know what the text is talking about. They will read the first paragraph and share their answers with the class.

While-Reading #2 (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

The Students are going to read the text deeper and answer some questions related to the text. They will check their answers in pairs and then with the whole class.

Post-Reading (4-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students are going to be divided into groups of 3 and discuss and share their personality features they know about themselves. They talk about what kind of features they like about their personalities.
