Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (0-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teachers opens interactive street view map from internet and shows 3 different places (Dubai, a city in UAE - Aurignac, a village in France - Southwold, a town in the UK) in different reigons. Then the teacher asks students to discuss with their partner and guess "what are those places?" and "what's in those places?".

Pre-Reading (0-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher provides vocabulary matching activity to clarify unknown words and prepare students for the reading text.

While-Reading #1 (0-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading tasks

The teachers focuses students' attention on the photos in the article and asks them to discuss with their partner if they show a village, town or city. Then the teacher gives them 1 minute to read the article quickly to check their guesses.

While-Reading #2 (0-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

The teacher asks students to read the text one more time in detail to answer the questions in Ex 3 individually and then check their answers with partners.

While-Reading #3 (0-10 minutes) (0-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

The teacher provides a worksheet in which students need to scan the text again to answer True/False questions.

Post-Reading (0-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

First, the teacher asks students to look at the text again and circle two things that are same where they live and circle two things that are different. Then, the teachers asks students to work in groups and talk about their own cities and describe life there and compare the similarities and differences with the model places in the text.
