Description

In this lesson, students learn about new vocabulary words through visual aid (Photos, videos, songs, etc..). The words would be written on the board modeled all while highlighting the stress. Followed by different forms of the new words. Finally, there will be some controlled practice followed by free practice.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of different types of sports in the context of their definition and how each sport is different.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of using the different types of sports in sentences in the context of understanding their meaning.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In groups students will be shown photos of sports equipment and will be asked to choose their favorite one. After they will share why they like it with the group and try to guess which sport it is used for.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Introduce the new vocabulary to the students: -Basketball. -Swimming. -Baseball. -Soccer. -Volleyball. -Boxing. -Tennis. -Handball. -Golf. -Hockey. Drilling will take place. There will be visual aid after with the words written on the board, each sport will have a photo of that sport next to it.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

After the exposure of the new words, the teacher will explain the meaning of each word all while using the visual aid. Each new word will be used in a sentence. After teacher will provide clear pronunciation.

Highlighting (2-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Teacher will play a video with the types of sports for the students.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In groups the students will be given a worksheet in which they can cut and stick the picture of the sport next to its name.

Semi-Controlled Practice (2-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Each student share with the class their favorite sport. "My favorite sport is-------".

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

We will end the session with a Baamboozle game that consists of photos of different types of sports and the students have to guess the name of the sport. The class will be divided into 2 teams each team consists of 5 kids.
