Main Aims

  • To provide students with model text to be prepared to write a holiday report

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about a holiday report : ask students to read the text to know what is the main idea
  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about a holiday report to find which questions does Alex answer in each paragraph?

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Stick some images on the wall around the class. Ask the students : what is the best place for your holiday? why?. In pairs go around the class to choose then talk. You have 3 minutes

Pre-teach vocabulary (5-7 minutes) • To pre-teach any blocking words necessary for the task to be set

Today we will ready a text. Before we do that let's learn some words.

Orient the student to the text (1 minutes) • To generate interest in the text, activate schemata and to prepare students to read

Now, we are going to read a text. what is the text about? Do you have any ideas ?

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Ask students to read the report to answer the question : which question does Alex answer in each paragraph? students answer this in five minutes alone.

Useful Language (3-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Teacher draws a mind map on the white board the center of the map contains a holiday report the sub main ideas are adjectives ,activities ,transportation and accommodation. Ask students to read the text quickly find some positive and negative adjectives....... ,accommodation( hotel or hotel) and activities they did there. How did they get there ? by plane or with Airways. Activities : what did they do there ? : walk around + something positive adjectives : nice ,fantastic, special, great and wonderful. negative adjectives :hot , quite cheap we put quite before an adjective to say not very cheap.

Preparation for writing (3-5 minutes) • To generate ideas and to help students prepare to write.

Answer questions 1-10 in this questionnaire e.g.: - where did you go ?- when did you go ?-who did you go there? -How did you get there? -How long did you stay? -what did you do ? - Did you buy anything ? - Did you have a good time there ? - Did you have any problems ? Tell students to answer these questions to write a report about their holiday later.

Productive Task(s) (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Tell students to write a report about their holiday. The report is four paragraph. use verbs in the past tense. work alone , you have ten minutes. How many paragraphs are you going to write ? Are you going to use the past tens ?

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Stick the reports you wrote on the wall around the class. Go around the class and read all of them. Tell me which report is the best. ICQs : Are you going to read all the reports ? yes Are you going to choose the best one ?yes while they are reading teacher can select some errors to correct in open class feedback.
