Description

In this lesson, students learn work vocabulary. First, they start thinking about the vocab by discussiıng a story board story. Then the meaning is conveyed in Words - definitions matching activity. After that, the form is elicited and the pronunciation is drilled. Sts practice TL in controlled task by filling in the gaps. Finally, sts have an opportunity to practice TL in a roleplay task.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher asks sts if they ever been to a job interview and what questions were they asked. Sts discuss in pairs.

Test #1 (6-8 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

1.Students get a story board “Kemal’s career”. Students look at the story and using their prior knowledge, discuss what they can see in the pictures. Students work in small groups so they can help each other with the vocab. 2.Students get shuffled sentences that they have to match to the pictures in the storyboard. After they have finished, teacher gives them answers on the WB.

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Students get a HO with words and phrases. They have to match them to their definitions. This task helps to convey the meaning of the new vocabulary. Sts work in pairs. The teacher monitors. Whole class feedback: teacher is checking if sts really understood the meaning of the new vocabulary by asking CQs, elicits the form and drills the pronunciation. Sts are given the answer key

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Controlled practice: sts get a dialogue with gaps. They have to fill in the blanks with work vocabulary. The controlled activity is set in the context of job interview so that sts can practice new vocabulary more naturally.Sts work iin pairs. Teacher monitors

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Class is divided into two halves Group A (Interviewers) and Group B (Applicants). Group A is asked to write the questions for a job interview. Group B is asked to write previous work experiences, their qualifications and questions they might have for an interviewer. After the groups have finished, sts from both groups work together in pairs role playing a job interview. Teacher monitors, takes notes and if necessery does an error correction at the end of the lesson.
