Description
In this lesson, students will learn about intensifiers through guided discovery based on a reading text about a trip to France. The lesson starts with a discussion about traveling abroad then a group activity game where the Ss guess the country landmark. This is followed by a group reading activity where each student chooses an activity from the text that appealed to them the most and mark out the adjectives used to describe the experience related to it. Finally there's a free activity where the Ss write a "traveling bucket list" of the countries they wish to see. then a controlled practice through a matching exercise then they use the matched adjectives and intensifiers to describe the places they want to visit and the activities they want to do in the countries on their "traveling bucket list".
Procedure (45-59 minutes)
Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students
discussing travelling abroad and do a landmarks matching game.
Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation
Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language
T write down the adjectives and intensifiers the Ss marked out from the reading text. and elicit from them their meanings. in case they couldn't figure out the meaning of a word T elicit it.
Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language
T drill through model then Ss repeat chorally then individually, ask the Ss to state the forms of the words.
Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice
T ask CCQ to ensure their understanding of the meaning, pronunciation and forms.
Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice
matching the intensifiers to the adjectives to be used in the next activity.
Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
Ss will use the previous exercise to describe the countries on their bucket list.
