Present Continuous: positive and negative

Description

Students will continue the previous slot, which will provide them to go through the language focus of my lesson. They will study the positive and the negative sentences in present continuous.

Main Aims

  • The aim of my lesson is to practice present continous in positive and negative sentences. The teacher aims to enable the students use present continous tense for"now".

Subsidiary Aims

  • The sub aim of the lesson will be speaking for accuracy because Ss will lead in the context by speaking and they will practice target language by a freer speaking activity at the end too.

Procedure

Lead In (5-8 minutes) • To set the lesson context, engage students and make them interested in

I will stick a window on the board and draw a clock. I will ask the students to think what is behind. After that I will open the window and show the people in an office. I will tell the students that there are people in the office. They are working and I'll introduce them to students. Then I will close the window and want them to predict what are they doing in the office now?

Language focus (8-10 minutes) • To enable students figure out the meaning and form

I'll point out that they were using present continous to talk about events happening "now" like Lucy is studying at the office. After that I will write a sentence on the board, I will remove the words to replace with others.

-ing forms (5-8 minutes) • getting used to -ing forms of the verbs

I will use my gestures to elicit some words which are :"play, smoke, study,sit, look,go,run,write,live,stop" Then I'll ask them to reerite their -ing forms on the board.

Controlled activity (5-6 minutes) • To enable students form the sentences correct

I eill gibe the students a HO. The students will work on the activity to put the words in order to make present continous sentences. They need to pay attention for the correct word order. After that they will have a peer check and I will get the correct answers from students.

Further practice (6-8 minutes) • To make them practice the target language more

I will ask students to look at activity two. I'll point out a picture and the clock, it is 9.55 and I'll ask what the people are doing. Then they will put the verbs in the present continous in the conversation. After that they will listen the conversation and check their answers.

Freer Activity (4-5 minutes) • To enable students use the target language

I'll tell the students that it is 11.15 now. The students will work in pairs and think about what these people are doing.
