Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about Britain in the context of Good things about Britain

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of places and jobs in the context of Good things about Britain

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher starts talking about her trip to London and the things she saw there. She wants the students to talk about the things they Know about Britain.

Pre-Reading/Listening (12-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this stage the teacher is going to teach the students some key vocabularies of the text using some pictures to help them learn better.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The students are going to match some pictures with the paragraphs that talk about different things related to Britain. Then they are going to check their answers in pairs and at the end with the whole class.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The Students are going to read the text deeper and answer some True or False questions related to the text. They will check their answers in pairs and then with the whole class.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students are going to be divided into groups of 3 and discuss the good things they know about their city or somewhere they have travelled to.
