Materials
Main Aims
-
The main aim of this class is to develop students' writing skills by creating simple sentences using vocabulary related to the solar system.
Subsidiary Aims
-
The subsidiary aim is to expand students' knowledge of the solar system and reinforce their understanding of basic sentence structure in English.
Procedure (36-50 minutes)
Begin class by showing a video of the solar system. Ask students questions to spark discussion, such as: "What do you know about the solar system?" "Can you name any planet in our solar system?" "What do you think the solar system is made of?" Encourage students to share their ideas and knowledge.
Distribute a worksheet that tests students' prior knowledge of the solar system. Include questions related to planet names, basic facts and vocabulary. Allow students to complete the questionnaire individually. Collect the questionnaires to refer to later.
Review the correct answers to Test #1 as a whole class activity. Introduce new vocabulary related to the solar system, such as planets, stars, moons and asteroids. Write the vocabulary words on the board and provide their definitions and pronunciations. Use visual aids and real life examples to reinforce understanding. Model and provide examples of simple sentences using the new vocabulary.
Distribute a quiz that requires students to use the newly introduced vocabulary to form simple sentences. Encourage students to refer to their notes and the vocabulary provided. Allow students to complete the questionnaire individually. Collect the questionnaires to evaluate them and compare them with the test #1.
Provide each student with a sheet of paper and a pencil. Instruct students to write three or more simple sentences using vocabulary related to the solar system. Encourage creativity and provide support as needed. After completing their sentences, students can share their work with a partner or with the whole class, promoting feedback and peer discussion.
