Description

In this lesson, students will create a family tree of their family. The lesson begins with questions about the family, then they will make a family tree with the members of their family named, two things that describe them and what is their occupation. Finally, they will present their family trees to the group.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for important informative in the context of family.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of family

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Explain in a simple way what a family tree is. Show an example of a family tree and explain how to do it (Name of each family member, occupation or job and 2 descriptions of their physical appearance).

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Show students how the family tree will be displayed. Demonstration of pronunciation. The students will begin to make the family tree, with the proposed elements.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

The students will have the teacher review their work, correcting words and pronunciation.

Productive Task(s) (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The students will go on to expose their family tree with all the proposed elements.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Students are corrected where they mispronounced some words and comments are made about the family tree.
