Main Aims

  • To introduce and teach new vocabulary through the reading of a passage and quizzing the students

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Learning and achievements in the context of story on page 58 of "Cutting Edge Advanced Students Book"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask questions on the student's opinion regarding "pampering" student's self-esteem and if they were given praise as young students.

Test #1 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

I will give the MFP of grindstone, achiever, and hypothesis

Reading (5-7 minutes) • Reading

I will give the initial paragraph of the reading passage

Quiz #1 (5-7 minutes) • To test the student's knowledge of the meaning of the targeted words

Give the students a quiz to gauge their understanding of the meaning of the targeted words

Reading - 2nd part (5-7 minutes) • Reading for detail

I will give the second portion of the passage

Quiz #2 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge the students ability to read for detail

I will quiz the students about various points of information found throughout the passage

Follow up discussion (5-7 minutes) • To answer any questions of misunderstanding in regards to the test
