Characteristics of people

Description

In this lesson, children learn to write the characteristics of people. The lesson begins with the following question to the students about what they are like. Next, they are shown pictures of characteristics of different people. Finally, they will describe themselves and draw a picture.

Materials

Abc Images of people's characteristics.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of characteristic of people in the context of family

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a words in the context of characteristics of people

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask the students: What do you see first of a person? For example: the color of your hair, if your hair is straight or wavy, if you are tall or short, the color of your eyes, the color of your skin, if you are thin or chubby, etc.

Pre-Reading/Listening (7-9 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Write on the board with the help of images, the following characteristics: Tall/small. slim/chubby. straight hair/wavy hair/curly hair. black hair/brown hair/blonde hair. brown eyes/green eyes/blue eyes. smiling/serious. Explain the meaning of the words in Spanish and ask the students to repeat the pronunciation after me.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ask students to copy the words in their notebooks representing each description with a drawing. Re-practice the pronunciation of the words.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students will write a description of themselves, using the words written on the board, forming a sentence and draw themselves. Correct the sentence if necessary. Practice pronunciation.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Once the sentence of the description of themselves has been corrected. They will come to the front to read their sentence with the help of the teacher.
