In this lesson Ss practice their speaking activities using useful language to describe their feelings

Materials

  • To provide fluency in the context of using functional language to describe your feelings and compare.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed in the context of using functional language to describe someone feelings and comparing them to others.
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of using functional language to describe someone feelings and comparing them to others.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Begin with a warm-up question: "What is one emotion that you have felt strongly recently?" Encourage students to share their emotions and briefly explain the situation that triggered those feelings. For example: "One thing that really excites me is when I travel to new places and explore different cultures."

Content preparation (6-6 minutes) • The purpose is to prepare Ss re the content of the task.

Instruct students to think of a situation or experience that elicits a strong emotion for them. Divide them into pairs or small groups for discussions. Each student should take turns describing their chosen situation using the functional language provided: "One thing that really annoys me is when people are consistently late for appointments." "I can't stand it when someone interrupts me while I'm speaking." "It really surprises me when I receive unexpected gifts from friends." "I find public speaking very nerve-wracking." "Loud noises make me very anxious." "I just can't connect with people who are constantly negative." ICQ´S Are you going to think about a situation or an object? Should the situation make you feel a little or very emotional? Are you going to work individually or with others? Should you form pairs or groups? Will you describe someone else's situation or your own?

Language Preparation (8-8 minutes) • The purpose is to prepare Ss re the language needed for the task. (MAFP)

Introduce the meaning for each functional language and and ask for an example from Ss Elicit the form from them and then have the class drill the pronunciation from the exmaple given during the previous task and the ones they give Some CCQ´s that can be use are: For Describing Your Feelings: CCQ for "One thing/another thing that really... Me is when...": Do you choose one thing or many things that make you feel a certain way? Does it make you happy or sad? CCQ for "I _______ it when...": Do you like or dislike the thing you mentioned? Are you talking about something that happens in the past, present, or future? CCQ for "It really_____ me when...": Does it bother or please you when that thing happens? Are you talking about a specific situation or in general? CCQ for "I find... very______": Do you think it's a little or very...? Are you talking about your own opinion or someone else's? CCQ for "..... Makes me very ____": Does it make you happy or sad? Are you talking about a person, thing, or situation? CCQ for "I just can't_____ with...": Can you tolerate or handle that thing? Does it make you feel annoyed or indifferent? For Comparing: CCQ for "Me too/so do!": Are you expressing agreement or disagreement? Are you talking about yourself or someone else? CCQ for "What about you?": Are you asking about their opinion or someone else's? Do you want to know if they feel the same way or differently? CCQ for "Does anyone else feel the same way?": Are you asking if one person or many people feel the same? Are you asking about feelings or something else? CCQ for "Yes, I find... Very_____, too.": Are you agreeing or disagreeing with the previous statement? Are you talking about your own feelings or someone else's?

Speaking (20-20 minutes) • (x 2 / 3) (focused [mainly] on fluency)

Introduce a set of discussion prompts related to different emotions and experiences. Encourage students to express their feelings and opinions using the functional language for comparisons: "Me too! I feel the same way when I watch scary movies." "What about you? Do you also find public speaking intimidating?" "Does anyone else feel the same way? I find crowded places very overwhelming." "Yes, I find studying for exams very stressful, too."

Content and Language FB (6-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Summarize the key points discussed during the session. Provide feedback and address any questions or concerns. Remind students to practice using the functional language outside the classroom to further develop their fluency.
