Main Aims

  • To provide practice with the subskills of listening for gist and specific information in the context emotions and therapies

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification on adjectives and nouns expressing emotions like laugh, laughter, anger, agry
  • To provide extended speaking fluecy as student talk about what do they think about laughing therapy and destruction therapy.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Introducing the topic of the lesson to students and asking them to work in break-out rooms for 2 minutes and think about the emotions that people in the pictures are feeling. Using g-slides

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Meaning Demonstrate activity using Slides. Students will match the word to the correct meaning. Students will work in groups using breakout rooms and they will have 2 minutes to finish the activity. Answers 1. Anger: This is a human emotion characterized by feelings of frustration, or irritation in response to a perceived injustice or challenge / 2.Laughter (N). Is a Physical reaction often associated with humor, joy, and positive emotions./ 3. Angry: Describes a strong feeling of displeasure, irritation, hostility to someone or something./ 4. Laugh: To make a sound and facial expression that shows joy or amusement. When Students finish matching, ask one or two CCQ or FCQ questions. Pronunciation Say the word and ask students to Tell students to repeat it.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Let the students have a first look at the Google forms. and share access to the form via chat. Tell students that they will listen to the audio. After listening to the audio ask students what the audio is talking about. After that, ask students to choose which kind of therapy is the audio talking about. Answers: Destruction therapy and Laughter therapy. Ask students: \When is destruction therapy used? Is used when people are stressed or angry Where is Laughter therapy? Is used in hospitals to help people with pain.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Share with students 2nd g-form and tell them that this time they will be listening to the audio for a second time to answer the questions in the second g-form with true or false. Give them 3 minutes after the second time to answer questions and then send them into breakout rooms for 3 minutes to compare answers, after that check answers in open class feedback. max 2 minutes. Answers: 1. False. One in ten people have trouble./ 2. True./ 3. False. The therapy will be more Satisfying./ 4. False. They pay workers to destroy hotels./ 5. False. Post-Reading/Listening (13-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

After listening to this audio, students will work in breakout rooms for 6 to 7 minutes to talk about destruction therapy and laughter therapy. do you think these therapies are a good idea why?
