Second conditional sentences

Description

In this lesson, students gain familiarity with the structure of second conditional sentences in which they use their fertile imagination. We encourage them to learn the structure by suggestopedia and many examples. Then we play a movie for them to shed light on the usage of this grammatical structure. Next, we make them play games in their groups. Last but not least, they are provided with some worksheets and homework for next session.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I play a music file and i read the story. Then I want the students to relax and just listen to it.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

1)I have prepared a PowerPoint with some examples including image. 2)then ask students to fill the gaps and complete sentences

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

1)I give students more examples in different structure form 2)I want my students to guess the similarities among sentences 3)while guessing I correct their mistakes 4)I give clarification of the use of this grammatical structure

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1)I play a movie in which second conditional sentences are used. 2)I play the movie again but this time I ask them to write down every second conditional sentence they encounter. 3)I group students in 2 and line them up in front of the board 4)the group with the most correct sentences is the winner

Free Practice (0-0 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I provide them with some worksheet in which they answer some questions and write a paragraph about their wishes and imaginary situation with using second conditional sentences as their homework.
