Procedure (72-93 minutes)
- T shows Ss the following sentence and asks “Does it feel natural? What would you do differently? How would you do it?” - Guide students into noticing the fact that we are repeating the same noun say “in these cases, we use ellipsis, in order to avoid repetitions”
- T asks Ss to rewrite the sentences in order without changing the meaning or losing coherence. Saying “Now try to eliminate unnecessary words, try not to change the meaning of the sentences” - T shows the set of sentences - Ss share their ideas and explain why they omitted something or why they didn’t.
T explains one by one the ways in which we can apply ellipsis. Using the previous examples as starting point.
- T shows the sentences for students to rewrite using ellipsis.
- T sets a matching pair activity where Ss will match the names with definitions of the given words.
- T sets a matching pair activity with the words and pictures for the Ss to match – focusing on MFP.
- T sets the activity, and Ss must complete the sentences using the vocabulary worked so far
- T sets the activity and explains again the different types of questions. - T plays the audio twice, let Ss answer the questions
- T sets the following questions for students to answer "What do you think are some of the biggest challenges that journalists face in today's world, and how do you think they can overcome them? How do you think the role of a journalist has evolved over time, and what impact has this had on the profession?" - T takes notes on Ss’s production for the next step
T gives feedback on Ss’s production focusing on good utterances and where can the Ss improve.
