Description

In this lesson students will learn the structure of a book review and practise writing one on their own.

Materials

Abc Whiteboard and markers

Main Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a review in the context of books

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about books in the context of reviews

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will ask students if they are acquainted with what a review is and if they have one or what approach they have had with them.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Teacher will ask students for words that might help describe a book: adjectives, tone words, etc..

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher will give the students the text and will ask them to read it out loud.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher will ask students to step to the board and write what they find important in the structure of a review, at least one point, max 3.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Teacher will ask students to discuss why they wrote down the points they wrote on the WB

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher will ask students to do their own book review, either prompted by the template and suggestions or their own.
