TP6/ Reading and Speaking
Upper-intermediate B1/B2 level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
Reading for detail about 'How adventurous are you?'
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide fluency for speaking
Procedure (28-44 minutes)
I will initiate the lesson by showing some images in order to illustrate the meaning of some words which will probably be troublesome and I will elicit the meaning by asking them to predict the mot juste for each image so that their curiosity will be picked up. Upon doing this, they will be asked to talk about the question ‘how adventurous are you? Then they will check their answers in pairs. So, I will make them prepare for the next step which will be reading for detail.
Now, I will ask the students to read the context, which consists of six different topics and is reading for detail, as careful as can. There are some questions to be answered and then they will be asked to check their answers with their partners.
In order to provide a good atmosphere for the students and not get bored with the lesson, I will ask them to stand up and ask and answer five questions and walk around the class to get to know different opinions and attitudes towards the questions. It will make the happy and interact with other students to communicate better.
As long as my main aim is reading, I will ask the students to read the text one more time to internalize the phrases and words which they will have learnt and find out more information because they will be some more questions to ask and answer. By doing this, students will be able to mingle with each other more so now than ever before.
The most significant part is right here. When students will be asked to stand up and walk around the class to ask and answer some more questions I will be monitoring them and find out the mistakes which they make. So, I will take a note of that and will try to elicit them by writing on the white board and find the right answer.
