Description

In this lesson students learn about how to write a film review.

Materials

Abc Jamboard Presentation

Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of writing a film review.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To develop students' skills of reading for gist.
  • To develop students' language proficiency in expressing opinions and providing supporting details of a film.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show 8 pictures and will ask: What are these? FILMS T will tell Ss' about his favorite type of film and will ask some Ss about theirs.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T will show Ss a sample of a film review. The review is about the film "Parasite" and has 4 paragraphs. T will ask students to read the sample and match each paragraph with the general name/use of it (presentation, analysis, opinion and conclusion) Ss will go to BoRs for two minutes to compare their answers.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will point 6 expressions from the review and ask some questions. The expressions are: main character, plot, setting, background, theme and key moment.

Productive Task(s) (12-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss will be asked to write their own film review following the organization of paragraphs and the given words/expressions. Each Student will write the review in a page of the Jamboard so T can monitor

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

In two stages First (4 minutes): Ss will change sheets and fill out a checklist from their partner's review. Second (4 minutes): T will select some review where it is necessary to correct something.
