Description

In this lesson students will be practicing reading and the sub-skills of reading for gist and specific information in the context of time, they will also reviewed on the use of prepositions in the context of time and will be able to use it efficiently by the end of the lesson. Student will also get the chance to practice and produce what they've learned .

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed and gist reading practice using a text about The history of time zones in the context of Time

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a talking about plans and dates in the context of Time
  • To provide review, practice and clarification of the use of prepositions in the context of Time

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will be asked a few questions about how they manage their time to put them in the context of Time and activate their background knowledge, and will be asked to discuss it in pairs

Vocabulary (10-11 minutes) • to check and teach the use of the prepositions (in,at,on) in the context of time

students will be given an exercise/Test to check how much they know how to use prepositions in the context of time, followed by feedback students will be given another HO with the answer key and to check the rules on the topic if needed students then will be given another HO to practice and produce what they've learnt/reviewed followed by a very brief FB

Pre-Reading (2-3 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

students will be asked about time differences to elicit the word timezone then they will discuss in pair 3 questions 1-how many time zones are there in your country? 2-do you know a country where it is night time now? in order to prepare the students for the Topic they're about to read about. followed by a quick feedback

While-Reading #1 (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and allow them to practice skim reading

students will be given the reading text and given 2 minutes to read and do the exercise followed by peer check and whole class feedback

While-Reading#2 (12-13 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed task and practice their (reading for specific information) sub-skill

Student will be asked to answer a series of T/F questions they will be given time to read the text, do the exercise and then check with a partner followed by detailed feedback

Post-Reading (11-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students will be given a series of questions and asked to mingle with the rest of the class and discuss these questions in this stage they will be monitored followed by delayed error correction
