Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a dialog about a family looking for a new flat in the context of a good neighbourhood
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy speaking practice in a dialog in the context of a good neighbourhood
Procedure (39-51 minutes)
Show a book and say: "What's this?" - "A book." - "Where can I buy it?" - "In a bookshop." -"Right! There is a big bookshop in my neighbourhood. (Draw "A good neighbourhood"on the WB) There is also a clothes shop, a hospital and there are a lot of houses. What else is there in a good neighbourhood?" (T-S) Make SS think in pairs (PW) and in turns come up to the WB and write a suggestion. (SS - WB)
Put the picture of a couple on the WB, SS - think what is in the picture (who are that people and what they are doing?); elicit SS's ideas about the couple (married, how many years, etc.). Elicit "estate agent", "flat"; concept check.
Tell the SS they are going to read a text about a couple talking to an estate agent. SS read the dialog and ask the question "What is the problem?" (Solo). When finished, SS discuss their suggestions (PW), and then tell the answer to WC.
SS do the ex. 2 (solo), and check (PW). For FB: put letters "T" and "F" on two sides of the WB and tell the SS when they hear the number of a question they come up to one of the letters. (WC)
Group the SS by numbering so as there are different pairs. SS do ex. 3 (solo), then check it in pairs. For FB: divide them into 2 groups. Tell SS they will need to run to the WB, correct the sentence to make it true and go back to their group and pass the marker to another SS. The group which finishes the first wins.
SS play the game (see attachments)
