Description

In this lesson, students learn how to use the first conditional to talk about plans and what you will do if plans change using the first conditional. Students discuss different plans they have in the future.The lesson starts with a short video about TL, Then the teacher will explain the first conditional and the use of it.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

​The teacher enters the class talking about travel plans. She uses some first conditional sentences, Then students watch a short video to get familiar with the first condition.

Exposure (1-2 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The teacher asks the students about where they want to go, Then the teacher will help the students to elicit a sentence using the first conditional.

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The teacher highlights the adverb of "If".She writes many sentences that the students make in the correct form. The teacher will draw the student's attention to grammatical structure.

Clarification (4-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher will clarify the form, function, meaning and pronunciation with the help of the students. The structure and the meaning are elicited and the pronunciation and intonation are practiced with drilling.

Controlled Practice (1-2 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students complete the blanks in the statements individually, and then they will check their answers in pairs, after that the answer will be checked by the whole class.

Free Practice (10-14 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The teacher divides the students into 2 groups and gives the students a speaking exercise using the first conditional: Tell us, What will you do if you travel to California? The students discuss in groups and the teacher monitors them.
